End of Term 3

Tomorrow the SuperStars of Room 8 are going to be celebrating the end of Term 3. We have learned so much this term and have worked very hard and we are all looking forward to the holidays.
This term we have learned about our Heroes and Role Models, learned about how to take care of our teeth, gums and tongue as well as being part of the Rugby World Cup hosted right here in Auckland. We played in our Junior School Rippa Rugby Tournament, met a superstar actor, Alison, and Cleaned up for the Cup.
Ms Tataurangi would like us to keep on counting, reading, talking and writing while we are on holiday, so watch out whanau - we are going to be keeping you all really busy.
PS. We are going to be having our 500 visitor celebration tomorrow. It's going to be a great way to end the Term.

Active for Animals

Today Room 8 had a visit from Marianne who came to talk with us about Empathy towards animals.
We got to touch the puppets and learn their names. We watched a dvd about lots of different animals. We had fun waggling around our room like bees, and Marianne helped us to decide which items are best for animals. Whaea Maeva took our photos and helped us to write stories this afternoon. Have a look at our stories on our blog pages.

Trying Canadian Food

Our adopted country Canada played very well in the Pool play, with a very special victory over Tonga, so to celebrate that victory Ms Tataurangi showed us how to make Grand-peres au sirop d'erable (maple syrup dumplings).

Grandpere dough

Maple Syrup and water simmering
We tasted the maple syrup and then made little dumplings to drop into the boiling maple syrup and water.

Lots of little dumplings ready for cooking

Ready for serving
When they had cooked, we ate them with a little bit of milk or cream. Even though this was a new taste experience, nearly all of us liked the dumplings.

Here's the recipe if you'd like to try them at home.
1 1/2  cups of maple syrup
3/4 cup of water
Put these two ingredients in a big pot and bring to the boil.
Mix 2 cups of flour
3 teaspoons of baking powder
3/4 teaspoon of salt
3 tablespoons of butter in a bowl and rub in the butter until the mixture looks like breadcrumbs.
Add 1 cup of milk into the mixture and combine to make a dough.
Drop little balls of dough into the boiling liquid, cover and let simmer for 10 - 15 minutes.
Allow to cool and enjoy.

Ms Tataurangi's Visit To The Cloud

Last weekend Ms Tataurangi and her family decided to visit The Cloud on the Auckland Waterfront.
We started walking from the Wynyard Quarter and waited for about an hour to go inside the GIANT rugby ball to watch a show about New Zealand.

What a cool experience. We even got to meet Te Kohe, who presents the show.

We wandered down towards The Cloud building and got sidetracked by activities for the kids. Here I am having my photos taken in the Canadian team kit and the MIGHTY ALL BLACKS team kit holding the Webb Ellis trophy high above my head.

Inside The Cloud, Ezara and her friend had their photo with Rugger and the RWC boss Martin Snedden.

We all had an awesome day and I am happy to be sharing this experience with my Room 8 SuperStars.

Maths Fun - Geometry

Today the SuperStars of Room 8 did a Maths assessment for Geometry.

We had to follow Ms Tataurangi's instructions and put the teddy bears in the right place on the picture.
We all did very well and now know about on, in, behind, under, beside and some of us know in between.
Have a look on our own blogs to see our photos.

Duffy Hero Assembly

Today, Alison Quigan (used to play Yvonne on Shortland Street),
came and read to us as part of our Duffy Hero Assembly. LUCKY US.
She talked about her role as an actor, writer and director.
Alison is going to be directing a play very soon called 'The Twits' by Roald Dahl.

Carol was selected to be Room 8's star today as
she now knows all the uppercase and lowercase letters of the alphabet.
Way to go Super Star Carol.

We got to have our photo with Alison afterwards.
Way to go Superstars of Room 8.
