Week 7 Superstars

At our Junior Assembly today Kupa, Carol and Lorisha were named our Superstars for this week.
Kupa is very clever at Number Knowledge, Carol is very supportive of her classmates - especially when they need help colouring in, cutting out and glueing and we welcomed Lorisha to our Superstar Class.
Way to go Superstars.

Playground and Sandpit Fun

After our Athletics running races Ms Tataurangi let us play on the playground by ourselves. Yay.
Then after lunch we got to do our learning in the sandpit. We had to share what we were making and creating. Ms Tataurangi asked us to explain what we were doing. If we said "Look at this", Ms Tataurangi would say "Tell me more, because 'this' is not enough". We really worked hard to extend our thoughts, ideas and words to show what we had made. What a cool fun learning time. 

We are the King's of the Mountain

When we read our Shared Book, 'I'm the King of the Mountain', we made crowns and stood on top of a 'mountain' by the field and shouted "I'm the King of the Mountain".
We drew designs and pictures on our crowns using a vivid and then coloured them in.
We think they look cool.

'L' is for Lolly Cake

Welcome back to Term 4 and what better way to start than with food.
In Room 8 this week we have been looking at the letter "Ll" and this morning we made lolly cake.
We heated up 100grams of butter and half a tin of condensed milk, then we used a rolling pin to crush the whole packet of malt biscuits in a plastic bag. We mixed in a packet of cut up Eskimo lollies at the end. We tipped the mixture into the dish and smoothed it out. We put the lolly cake in the fridge to set.
Tomorrow afternoon we are going to taste our lolly cake. We are thinking about what it might taste like?

End of Term 3

Tomorrow the SuperStars of Room 8 are going to be celebrating the end of Term 3. We have learned so much this term and have worked very hard and we are all looking forward to the holidays.
This term we have learned about our Heroes and Role Models, learned about how to take care of our teeth, gums and tongue as well as being part of the Rugby World Cup hosted right here in Auckland. We played in our Junior School Rippa Rugby Tournament, met a superstar actor, Alison, and Cleaned up for the Cup.
Ms Tataurangi would like us to keep on counting, reading, talking and writing while we are on holiday, so watch out whanau - we are going to be keeping you all really busy.
PS. We are going to be having our 500 visitor celebration tomorrow. It's going to be a great way to end the Term.

Active for Animals

Today Room 8 had a visit from Marianne who came to talk with us about Empathy towards animals.
We got to touch the puppets and learn their names. We watched a dvd about lots of different animals. We had fun waggling around our room like bees, and Marianne helped us to decide which items are best for animals. Whaea Maeva took our photos and helped us to write stories this afternoon. Have a look at our stories on our blog pages.

Ms Tataurangi's Visit To The Cloud

Last weekend Ms Tataurangi and her family decided to visit The Cloud on the Auckland Waterfront.

We started walking from the Wynyard Quarter and waited for about an hour to go inside the GIANT rugby ball to watch a show about New Zealand.

What a cool experience. We even got to meet Te Kohe, who presents the show.

We wandered down towards The Cloud building and got sidetracked by activities for the kids. Here I am having my photos taken in the Canadian team kit and the MIGHTY ALL BLACKS team kit holding the Webb Ellis trophy high above my head. 

Inside The Cloud, Ezara and her friend had their photo with Rugger and the RWC boss Martin Snedden.  

We all had an awesome day and I am happy to be sharing this experience with my Room 8 SuperStars.

Maths Fun - Geometry

Today the SuperStars of Room 8 did a Maths assessment for Geometry.

We had to follow Ms Tataurangi's instructions and put the teddy bears in the right place on the picture.
We all did very well and now know about on, in, behind, under, beside and some of us know in between.

Duffy Hero Assembly

Today, Alison Quigan (used to play Yvonne on Shortland Street),

came and read to us as part of our Duffy Hero Assembly. LUCKY US.

She talked about her role as an actor, writer and director.

Alison is going to be directing a play very soon called 'The Twits' by Roald Dahl.

Carol was selected to be Room 8's star today as

she now knows all the uppercase and lowercase letters of the alphabet.

Way to go Super Star Carol.

We got to have our photo with Alison afterwards.

Rippa Rugby Tournament

Today was the Junior School Rippa Rugby Tournament.

We played as the Canadian team.

Rippa Rugby Fun on the Field

On Wednesday we had lots of fun on our Rippa Rugby learning journey with Christina from Kelly Sports.

Our ball skills are improving and we are getting better at staying inside the cone lines.

Bring on the Junior School Rippa Rugby Tournament next week.

If only we were playing Rippa Octopus - We wonder if Miss Breen could put a game or two in the draw for us?

Kiwi Can Fun with Room 10

This week we invited Room 10 to join us in our Kiwi Can lesson.

We did the most awesome and very loud warm up.

Ms Tataurangi and Miss Lendrum should remember to bring earplugs next time.

Matina, Joseph and Eddie helped us to remember about physical and verbal bullying.

We shouted out "No Bullying in our School".

We played Statues. There were so many of us that we didn't have time to find a winner.

Assembly

On Monday, September 19th we lead the Whole School Assembly.

We were very nervous about talking in front of all the students and teachers.

We were so nervous that only Bailee and Mark could introduce the items and who was speaking next. Congratulations to you two SuperStars.

Next time we will have much more confidence to be able to get up and speak in front of so many people.

Whole School Toothbrushing

On September 9th, as part of our Oral Health & Hygiene Week, we all stayed on the courts after our Black Out Day photo and brushed our teeth. Cynthia, our dental therapist, lead us in brushing our teeth all together. What a wonderful sight it was - as you can see by the photos and the video!
